"You're the Worst" season 2 release date is just less than a month away but the FXX comedy series is not done bulking up its cast line up.
For its second season, fans will finally get to see the father of Jimmy Shive-Overly (Chris Geere). His father was mentioned in the first season several times and he is not the typical father figure to anyone. He is inconsiderate, cruel and gives Jimmy a hard time.
Entertainment Weekly reported Jimmy's father will appear in one of the upcoming episodes and he will be played by David Schaal.
"At one point in last year's first season of sitcom You're the Worst, the father of sports-hating, L.A.-dwelling British novelist Jimmy (Chris Geere) sent him a soccer jersey. The gift was so ill-considered that even the suggestion from Jimmy's girlfriend Gretchen (Aya Cash) that they "do it backwards while you watch foot-fetish anime" couldn't cheer him up," EW wrote.
"Who could play such a monster? The answer, EW can exclusively reveal, is David Schaal from the original, U.K. version of The Inbetweeners, who will appear as Jimmy's dad Ronny in an episode called "A Right Proper Story." The character is described as "a withholding soccer hooligan who never misses an opportunity to make fun of his only son. He has little respect for Jimmy's chosen career and would rather Jimmy used his hands for a living, 'like a real man.'""
"You're the Worst" season 2 premiere is on September 9. Series creator Stephen Falk said the second season will have a darker tone compared to the first.
"This season gets weirder and darker. We are going to be tackling a BIG issue and it's not an issue that's necessarily funny; it's kind of the opposite (laughs)," Falk said last June.
"We're tackling that from the beginning of the second act, which I consider episode five all the way through. It's something when I pitched season to [FX boss] John Landgraf and team, they were understandably a little cautions but never tried to get me to back off it. They gently reminded me to make sure it was still fun, and I think we've found a way to do it."
