'Arrow' Season 4 Premiere, Spoiler, And More: Is Merlyn An Ally Or Enemy? EP Answers

| By

Oliver Queen will return to Starling City in "Arrow" season 4 premiere episode after being away for a while.

However, what might welcome are chaos and terror. Not only he is not in good terms with his bestfriend Diggle (David Ramsey), the city will also welcome a new big bad in the person of Damien Darhk.

The Emerald Archer can use all the help he can get right now. When "Arrow" season 4 premiere episode arrives, it would be great for him to have every helpful force on his side.

He already has Diggle, Laurel Lance/Black Canary, and Thea who is expected to evolve as Speedy. What about Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) who Olie helped become the leader of the League of Assassins? Team Arrow needs to be careful because there is no assurance that Malcolm is on their side.

"That is the million dollar question for all of the Malcolm stuff. Does he keep his promise at the end of Season 3 to Oliver, or does he come back and jack things up?" executive producer Wendy Mericle told Collider when asked about the status of Malcolm Merlyn with Team Arrow.

"What we like about him and what we are really excited about is that he's gotten what he wanted. He wanted to be Ra's. He really wanted that ring and that power. He went back and forth, in terms of being allied with the team and not allied with the team, in Season 3. He was obviously playing a longer game, at that point, but he's won that game. So, I think we're going to see a little bit more of that Season 1 Malcolm, which was ruthless and more cunning and definitely more out for himself."

Although Malcolm Merlyn is not completely a friend, fans are assured that he will not team up with Team Arrow's main enemy this season, Damien Darhk. In fact, Malcolm Merlyn will also come to their aide.

"He has knowledge of Damien from the League, that some of our team members are not going to have. He'll help them, in that way, but by the same token, it feels like he could ally with Damien or he could ally with the team," Mericle said.

"He is able to play both sides, and it will be interesting to see what he has in store. We're not sure. We feel like we have a lot of options on the table."

"Arrow" season 4 premiere episode will air on October 7.
