After high TV ratings in its season 1 finale, is it possible "Wayward Pines" will get a renewal for a second season despite original plans of the show being a "limited series"?
Earlier, "Wayward Pines" was branded as a "limited series," meaning there would be no renewal and that it would only stand as a one-season TV series.
However, on July 24, the Thursday night show reeled in a total of 3.9 million viewers and a 1.2 rating, TVLine reports. The show also had an 18 percent rise in viewership with every week since its pilot episode, which made it one of the top-rated series this season.
With such ratings, it only seems right to have a "Wayward Pines" renewal. To top it all off, the limited TV show's director and writer are up for it.
According to Fox, writer Blake Crouch and director M. Night Shyamalan had started talking about a possible season 2, should the network decide to grant a "Wayward Pines" renewal.
"M. Night Shyamalan and the author of the book series (Blake Crouch) just started conversations about it," Fox's Dana Walden said, as reported by Deadline. "Perhaps it would be another miniseries event... if the author can lay in the future book series."
This despite the show debuting weak against the season finale of The Blacklist and Scandal.
However, news of "Wayward Pines'" solidly increasing ratings seem to have gone unnoticed for so long and the time between shooting the film and its airdate was so far apart, most of its actors have moved on to other projects and may not commit to a 2nd season.
On the other hand, reports say producers are discussing on writing the 2nd season for brand new characters.
"Wayward Pines" season finale saw the townspeople go back right to where it started with the First Generation taking reign. Ben Burke wakes up after more than three years after the Abbies' attack and now he sees a town with dehumanizing and oppressive rules.
To make the long story short, "Wayward Pines" comes to a violent end, which feels good and bad at the same time - just enough to make the audience want more!
