An Intel-powered Android Wear Fossil smartwatch has just been unveiled at the Intel Developer Forum 2015 in San Francisco earlier this week.
PocketNow reported that the smartwatch is just one of Fossil's range of new wearable devices which includes a connected bracelet and a phone-connected watch.
"Much like the upcoming Tag Heuer smartwatch, this Fossil model features Intel silicon, though the company hasn't yet gone into detail about technical specifics," the website said.
So far, the website noted that the new smartwatch from the clothing and accessories designer sports a design reminiscent of the Motorola Moto 360 which unfortunately has "the same flat-tire occlusion."
PocketNow thinks this is "an unfortunate choice" since other companies have found a way to make use of a round display in its entirety.
Despite a new Fossil smartwatch, the clothing company will focus on the other two wearable devices it showed off at IDF 2015, according to Forbes.
During an earnings call earlier this month, CEO Kosta Kartsotis reportedly said that Fossil's focus is on "smarter watches" which he described as "just adding chips and extra functionality to existing watches."
It wouldn't be the first time the Richardson, Texas-based company delved into the smartwatch arena.
"In 2002, it received a 'best of Comdex 2002' award for the Palm Pilot watch, which boasted a 160 x 160 display, 2MB of memory and Palm apps such as address book, memo pad, to-do list and a calculator," Forbes said.
Two years later, Fossil became part of Microsoft's "Smart Personal Object Technology" smartwatch range.
These days, the clothing company joins the likes of LG, Asus, Motorola, Sony, Samsung and Huawei in Google's Android Wear smartwatch platform.
While those tech companies already have their devices on offer, an exact release date and price for the Android Wear-based Fossil smartwatch has yet to be announced. The company supposedly said that its wearable devices will go on sale by the holidays, according to The Verge.
