Get ready to meet Simba's mischievous son in the new "The Lion King" sequel for Disney Junior!
"The Lion Guard: Return Of The Roar" is an upcoming animated TV movie based on the 1994 beloved Disney classic.
Instead of having Simba as the main character, however, the spotlight will be trained on his and Nala's playful son, Kion, and his adventure with his friends.
The studio released its extended clip during the D23 Expo earlier this week to the excitement of fans who waited for years to find out more about Simba and Nala's family.
The clip shows Kion playing around in the grasslands with his honey badger friend, Bunga, (who seems to call Timon and Pumba his uncles), effectively introducing the viewers to the film's setting.
Cosmopolitan also spotted some familiar places like Pride Rock. Rafiki also makes a brief appearance in the trailer. Kion and Bunga even has a run-in with some troublesome hyenas when their fruit accidentally stumbles into the Outlands.
According to MTV News, the adorable cub share several similarities to his father. Aside from looking exactly like him, Kion also seem to love playing tag-pin "just like his old dad (and grandpa). Of course, the playful cub also inherited his ancestor's majestic roar.
While the first sequel, "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride," had already been released in 1998, fans are still excited to see more of Simba's offspring.
On the other hand, other fans pointed that Simba and Nala already had a daughter in the first "The Lion King" sequel named Kiara. Perhaps Kion is Kiara's younger brother, which would still be a logical possibility.
"I like the idea of Simba having a son. It's sorta like giving him a [second] chance at having a father/son bond like he did with Mufasa," one fan commented about the said follow-up story. "I hope they kept that in mind when making this. I want to see them do these beloved characters justice."
