Since the tragic death of their bassist, Chi Cheng last 2013, Chino Moreno and the rest of Deftones have refrained from working on a new album.
But now, the alternative metal band is ready as their new record is nearing completion.
And while everything is right on track, the band's DJ, Frank Delgado confessed that they have yet to think of title for the new album.
"That's our next thing to tackle," Delgado told Diffuser.fm of their album's title.
While their still thinking of what to call the new Deftones album, Delgado shared how they worked on the record and how it differs from the previous albums.
"This one was different," he said regarding the new Deftones album. "This one was a lot of starting and stopping which I think is something we would've been scared of before. For the last couple of records, we went in and we started writing and we didn't stop until we finished the record."
Adding, "This one we took our time and it was a good pace. Everyone needed that break to breathe, to go home to family. Now we're ready to be able to work like this. It allowed us to think about things longer as opposed to get something done by a deadline."
Meanwhile, drummer, Abe Cunningham revealed that they are not almost done with the new album as it is already in the process of mixing.
"They're finishing the mixing right now," Cunningham revealed. "We're actually getting mixes sent to us while we're here."
In an interview with Blabbermouth, frontman Chino Moreno revealed that Deftones has collaborated with Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell.
"Jerry is on the new Deftones album," Moreno confirmed. "I didn't know if he wanted anybody to know or not. But I guess I've just spilled the beans. But he came in... There's this one track that... in the demo stages of it, I was, like, 'There's this hole in there...'"
And while fans are most likely expecting some kind of solo performance from the Alice in Chains guitarist, Moreno explained that his involvement had something to do with the new album's overall sound.
"In Deftones songs, there's not really any guitar solos per se, but there was a section in there where [there was room for] not necessarily a typical solo, but it had an area where it could use something like what he does, especially... just his style and the way he plays guitar," he revealed.
Adding, "So I sent him the track, and then he sent me a demo of it back, like, two days later. So, yeah, when we recorded the song [properly for the album], he came in and laid it down. And it's awesome. It's like you're hearing a Deftones song, but all of a sudden, a little bit of Alice In Chains seeps its way in there, and it's kind of neat. I mean, me, as a fan, I was just sitting back and a little tear came out of my eye."
