‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Sequel May Not Be Happening -- Charlize Theron Denies Rumors

| By

The rumored "Mad Max: Fury Road" follow-up may not be happening soon as Charlize Theron admits that she has no idea about a follow-up film.

Does George Miller have no plans for a "Mad Max" continuation, as contrary to celebrity news reports?

"Mad Max: Fury Road" ravaged the global blockbuster scene when it recently topped the $300 million worldwide mark, Forbes reports. In the US alone, the film earned $125.1 million while it reeled in $177 million abroad.

With such success, it's normal to believe in a "Mad Max" sequel movie -- a bigger, more explosive update to "Fury Road," however, "Mad Max's" Furiosa, Charlize Theron, shoots down rumors, saying she has no idea about it -- Has George Miller no plans to oblige movie fans' request, contrary to some celebrity news reports?

A few weeks ago, "Mad Max: Fury Road" writer and director George Miller announced that the next film will be entitled "Mad Max: The Wasteland."

"We've got one screenplay and a novella. It happened because with the delays [on Fury Road] and writing all the backstories, they just expanded," Miller reportedly said.

But Theron, it seems, had no idea of the said sequel.

"What's Wasteland?" Theron asked in a USA Today interview. "This is all news to me. I have not heard anything like that."

Furiosa (Charlize Theron's character in "Mad Max") was more than just a female character in the film, she was, in herself, a major force in the film franchise, such that there are so many Furiosa fans.

However, the actress previously expressed how difficult it was for her to film "Mad Max: Fury Road."

"It was the isolation, and the fact that we were stuck in a rig for the entire shoot," Theron told Esquire. "We shot a war movie on a moving truck - there's very little green screen. It was like a family road trip that just never went anywhere. We never got anywhere. We just drove. We drove into nothingness, and that was maddening sometimes."

With Theron having no idea about the sequel nor does she feel keen to shoot another "Mad Max" film, will there be a "Wasteland" coming soon? Fans would have to wait to find out.
