The troubled Mindy McCready, 37, has died from a gunshot wound. Her boyfriend, record producer David Wilson, had just died last month of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
McCready has courted controversy throughout her career. She was involved in an alleged affair with married baseball player Roger Clemens, which she acknowledged later. The country singer also struggled with substance abuse issues, culminating in a custody battle over her children that took a dramatic turn when she went missing with her then five-year-old son Zander. They were later found hiding in her closet.
Since skyrocketing to fame in 1996 with her album "10,000 Angels" and hit song "Guys Do It All The Time," McCready has faded from popularity, although she has attempted a comeback in recent years.
After Wilson's death, McCready denied rumors of being in involved in his death, insisting that it was a suicide. She has had previous suicide attempts in the past. Her father, Tim McCready, had been spending time with her before the suicide, and her condition was described as "distraught" over Wilson's death in recent weeks.
Celebrity doctor Drew Pinsky had attempted to reach out to her recently, three years since her appearance on an episode of "Celebrity Rehab" with him. He said he had encouraged her to "take care of herself" by checking into a facility, but she had fears of doing so due to public perception.
McCready leaves behind two boys, Zander, 6, and Zayne, 9 months. Wilson was the father of Zayne, while McCready's ex-boyfriend Billy McKnight was the father of Zander.
