Mahomies started to suspect something was amiss with the young couple's relationship when the social media-loving duo went radio silent for a while.
The tension became more pronounced when the "Dirty Work" singer posted a cryptic tweet about his couple nose ring with the "Shower" singer falling out.
"My nose ring fell out, and it won't go back in. oh well, I guess some things are just not meant to be..." he captioned a selfie sans the said nose ring, implying his break-up with the 18-year-old singer.
"Yeah, we broke up," he later admitted to Twist.
Despite the split, the couple seemed to be moving on from it. Mahone told FOX411 as much when they caught up with him at the Teen Choice Award where he was nominated for Choice Male Hottie
"I mean I'm chilling," he reportedly said. "Just taking a break, hanging out- it's all good."
Before Austin Mahone and Becky G's break-up, the "Mmm Yeah" singer gushed about it being the first "real" relationship he's ever had.
This angered a lot of Fifth Harmony fans who supported his short relationship with Camila Cabello last year.
In a radio interview with Zach Sang and the Gang, however, he finally admitted that he did call the "Worth It" songstress his girlfriend during their brief time together.
"I definitely did date her. I called her my girlfriend, so I guess she was my girlfriend," he said, adding that he did ask her to become his girlfriend at that time.

On the other hand, Hollywood Life reported that Mahone did "everything in his power" to avoid Cabello and the rest of Fifth Harmony at the Teen Choice Award last Sunday.
"He dipped his head and avoided all potential eye contact," an insider claimed.
