New Target COO John Mulligan To Manage Stores, Properties And Supply Chain

| By

Target Corp. Chief Executive Brian Cornell has appointed former finance chief John Mulligan as the company's new chief operating officer, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Mulligan is expected to manage stores, properties and supply chains for the corporation along with maintaining day-to-day operations for store locations across the country. The new COO will be replaced as chief financial officer by former CFO of pharmacy-benefits manager Cathy Smith.

Mulligan will also oversee Target's expanding efforts to boost its online market presence.

Target's new senior vice president Anne Dament is expected to revamp the retail company's merchandise with food and essentials division, the Associated Press reports, mentioning that the role has remained vacant since late 2014.

Dament, who has worked in the grocery and consumer product field for over 20 years, left her position with PetSmart, where she served as vice president of services.

"Our guests tell us they expect Target to inspire them with differentiated food offerings like we do in other areas," said Target Chief Executive Officer Brian Cornell, according to the site.

"We have an opportunity to make food more reflective of our brand, elevate the shopping experience and make Target a food destination for our guests."

Her appointment is part of Target's initiative to revamp its food business model over the next year and a half, which will include healthier food options and new wine and beer selections. Target's new model is said to come full swing in 2016.

Dament has also worked at Safeway, a national Idaho-based supermarket chain, SuperValu, a retail company and ConAgra Foods, a packaged foods company.

"My very first job was in a local grocery store and I've had a passion for food ever since. Joining the team at Target gives me an opportunity to bring my professional experience and love of food to the organization as their transformation is just getting underway," said Dament, according to Business Wire.

Target was founded in 1902 and is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
