Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim Explains Loki/Avenger Factor In 'Legends Of Tomorrow' Cast

| By

"Legends of Tomorrow" cast is diverse. Not only in the sense of race but also in the characters they portray.

LoT is essentially a team formed to save the world. They are all heroes from different backgrounds but two of them are a bit odd compared to the others.

Wentworth Miller's Captain Cold and Dominic Purcell's Heatwave were pulled out from another DC TV series "The Flash" where they play antagonist to Grant Gustin's Barry Allen.

Both Captain Cold and Heatwave are long-time nemesis of the Flash in the comics and them being part of the hero-centric "Legends of Tomorrow" alliance raises some questions.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim has simple explanation about the two supervillain's inclusion - to make the adventures more unpredictable. He even compared it to idea of Loki working with his foe and brother Thor and the Avengers.

"I think it's a combination of a couple things: first of all, when you've got Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell and you don't use them, that's, like, criminal. That's really what's criminal. Like, you've got to make use of those guys. But also, it's the virtue of having these X factors, these monkey wrenches in the works. It makes the whole situation very unpredictable," Guggenheim said in an interview with Comic Book Resources.

"And the show is so much richer for having these two guys in this group of superheroes. It's almost like, if you did Avengers but you made Loki an Avenger. Can you imagine how much fun that would be? And that's what it is. It gives you so much more story to tell. So you've got great actors, and you get a chance to use them in a way that is so interesting and so challenging."

"Legends of Tomorrow" cast is headlined by those from "Arrow" and "The Flash" where the upcoming show was spun off from. They are Miller and Purcell, Brandon Routh who plays Ray Palmer/The Atom, Caity Lotz as Sarah Lance/White Canary, and Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein/Firestorm.

Additions in "Legends of Tomorrow" cast Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Ciara Renee as Kara Saunders/Hawkgirl, Falk Hentschel as Carter Hall/Hawkman, and Casper Crump as Vandal Savage.
