iRobot Roomba might be your favorite device from iRobot Corp. - how else did you get that messy apartment cleaned up, right?

While iRobot Roomba provides comfort to its consumers, the robotics company is now exploring a more serious terrain.

According to reports, iRobot Corp. is supplying 75 Small Unmanned Ground Vehicles (SUGV) to the United States Navy.

The SUGV is said to have high-resolution color cameras with thermal vision and real-time explosive detection sensors - in short, it offers awareness of the environment and emminent danger to anyone who uses it.

"As threats persist globally, iRobot is proud to continue partnering with our defence forces to provide this life-saving technology," Senior Vice President and General Manager of iRobot's Defense & Secuirty Business Unit, Tom Frost said.

The SUGV, which is a lighter version of iRobot Packbot is capable of exploring areas that people cannot have access to due to danger or any other situations and terrains.

"Rugged, lightweight robots like SUGV enable a safer and more effective way to conduct a variety of dangerous missions," Frost said.

According to reports, iRobot's recent deal with the U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command has reeled in $9.8 million for the company.

Deliveries of the iRobot SUGV will be completed by the second quarter of 2016.

In 2014, the technology and robotics company has generated $557 million in revenue due to its innovative products. Their latest design, is a hands-free lawn mower.

However, the designed would require a waiver from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) because the device uses transmissions that might interfere with other devices. It is also goes against the FCC's prohibition on "fixed indoor infrastructure" that transmits unlicensed low-power radio signals.
