Jimmy Fallon's hosting chops is so good, his "The Tonight Show" contract has been extended until 2021!
Jimmy Fallon previously signed a contract with NBC's "The Tonight Show" for only three years and six months but apparently, NBC wants to lock down the late night host sobad, they've extended his contract through fall of 2021, The New York Times reported.
Since replacing previous "Tonight Show" host, Jay Leno, Jimmy Fallon's segments ("Box of Lies," "Wheel of Musical Impressions," "Lip Sync Battle," etc.) have become so popular with the audience, averaging 3.853 million viewers and consistently being at the top spot in the time slot.
However, NBC will soon have a new competitor for Fallon's time slot - Stephen Colbert, who will be taking over "The Late Show" on CBS. This led NBC executives to extend Jimmy Fallon's show contract.
"We said, 'Why don't we just tie him up for a chunk of years?' " Chairman of NBC Entertainment, Robert Greenblatt said.
"He got the job last year, and you give him a three-year deal and see how it goes, and then it's like, O.K., home run. Let's lock up the home run," Greenblatt added.
Despite being competitors, Greenblatt revealed that Fallon and Colbert are actually great friends.
"Unlike the strange Leno-Letterman stuff that transpired over the years or Kimmel-Leno, they are great friends," he said.
What great news for Jimmy Fallon, who recently had to take a two-week hiatus due to an accident that nearly amputated his finger!
According to the host, he suffered a ring avulsion after an accident in his home kitchen.
"I tripped and fell in my kitchen on a braided rug that my wife loves and I can't wait 'til I burn it to the ground," Fallon explained. "And I tripped and fell and I caught my fall and I'm getting up and my finger's sideways."
The talk show host had to undergo a 6-hour microsurgery to keep his ring finger.
