"The Strain" season 2 episode guide talks of Dr. Eph Goodweather (Corey Stoll) about to do a very noble job.
However, he might not be the Eph that fans liked while doing that. Last week's episode saw Eph travel to Washington to inform the government about the weapon he and Nora (Mia Maestro) invented to stop the spread of the vampire infection.
Nonetheless, as he was traveling his way there, he met his former boss Everett Barnes. Eph is so determined to get the anti-strigoi bioweapon in mass production and not even his boss will get in the way.
He tried to convince Barnes of his mission but the latter just won't believe him. Accidentally, Eph pushed Barnes out of the moving train, unfortunately killing him.
This is the first time the doctor killed a person and according to Stoll, this could be the start of his character getting darker. The next "The Strain" season 2 episode will see Eph becoming more evil.
"Yeah, I think you can say that. Definitely from that point on to the rest of the season, he is in a different place, morally," Stoll said in an interview with Hidden Remote.
However, Eph's transition into a darker version of himself might not be that smooth because of his addition to alcohol. This problem of his will show in the following "The Strain" season 2 episodes.
"Q: What about Eph's alcoholism? We've been seeing it gradually increase. Can we expect to see that affecting how he handles the situation?
Stoll: Yeah, definitely! He does not sober up the rest of the season. He was never the best fighter in the world; but no, he's a little easier and little more handicapped."
Earlier this month, "The Strain" author Guillermo del Toro said Eph is supposed to grow as a darker, functional drunk man.
"He grows darker and it's very much a result of what's happened to him. He's lost his wife, first through divorce and then to vampirism," Cuse said in an interview with Comic Book Resources.
"He's struggling to forge a relationship to his kid and his relationship with Nora is kind of on the rocks. There's a lot of stress and I think this is both a way to show him being both functional, but to also show the cost and consequences of everything that's going on, on a character level."
"The Strain" will return on Sunday. Read "The Strain" season 2 episode guide below:
