Liam Neeson As General MacArthur? ‘Taken’ Star In Talks To Star In South Korean War Film!

| By

Liam Neeson taking on General MacArthur in a new South Korean war film would be a welcome break from the string of "Taken" films that he's been stuck with in the past couple of years, Cinemablend said.

Deadline reported that Neeson has been in negotiations to play the world famous official in Taewoon Entertainment's "Operation Chromite" an upcoming film based on a real life event during the Korean War in the 1950s.

The film will reportedly center on the Battle of Incheon, which was a major event during the Korean War. United Nations-backed US forces launched a surprise attack against North Korean communists which was called "Operation Chromite."

The said plan was planned and executed by General MacArthur. According to The Guardian, this battle paved the way into liberating Seoul from communist forces on Sept. 25, 1950.

According to Entertainment Weekly, John H. Lee will be directing the movie with Lee Man-hee as screenwriter. They previously worked together in a 2010 war film. "71: Into The Fire" was based on the student soldiers who sacrificed their lives to stop the North Korean faction from moving any further south.

A 12 billion won or $12 million budget has been set for the movie's production.

It's fairly rare for Korean film companies to hire famous Hollywood actors. Should Liam Neeson accept the Greneral MacArthur role, he would join the ranks of the rare Hollywood lead actors cast in a starring role for a South Korean movie. The English-language film "Snowpiercer" cast Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton last year.

Meanwhile, General Douglas MacArthur was a beloved war hero who fought in the first and second World Wars. Cinemablend maintained that he would be a great addition to Liam Neeson's impressive CV, which consists of Oskar Schindler ("Schindler's List"), John "Hannibal" Smith ("The A-Team"), and Bryan Mills ("Taken") among others.

Aside from Liam Neeson as General MacArthur, no other cast has been announced for "Operation Chromite."
