While Naughty Dog is reportedly very busy with "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," there are reports claiming that the gaming studio is also looking forward to announce the release date of "The Last of Us 2."
It was previously speculated that the highly anticipated follow-up to Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic game is not happening when Neil Druckmann said that there's only a "50/50" that the sequel is pushing through.
"We have such limited resources, and it's a question of where you put the resources," the director previously said in an interview. "It's something where we can have a feel of where the demand is, and where our time is best spent. It's something that we'll figure out as we move forward."
However, Game Rant was able to quote voice actor Nolan North in a Q&A panel at MetroCon in Tampa, Florida, revealing that "The Last of Us 2" is indeed happening.
"I know they're doing a 'Last of Us 2' but my character in Last of Us kind of had an untimely demise."
VC Post claimed that Naughty Dog will most likely going to announce the game's release date once "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" and "The Last of Us" movie adaptation is finalized.
"Once 'Uncharted 4' and 'The Last of Us' movie are taken care of, however, it might be a different story altogether," the publication claimed. "Unless Naughty Dog wants to move onto an entirely new IP, they might finally get around to giving us the 'The Last of Us' sequel that so many of the game's fans are asking for."
And while "The Last of Us 2" plot will most likely not going to focus on Joel and Ellie's story anymore, Cinema Blend claimed that Naughty Dog might opt to introduce new characters that would connect ot Joel and Ellie's life.
"It's possible he won't want to compromise that ending with a sequel," Cinema Blend reported. "The development team at Naughty Dog might opt for a new story with never-before-seen characters instead."
After admitting that "The Last of Us 2" release date is still "on ice," director Bruce Straley explained to Game Spot that the developers are actually talking about it already.
"We're 110 percent in Uncharted 4 territory now," Straley said. "Blinders on, make this awesome."
"We totally get it, because we have those same feelings as well. We have brainstormed sequel ideas for 'The Last of Us,' and we've brainstormed ideas for new games, but all of that is put on ice right now while we work on 'Uncharted 4.'"
