Child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey's parents, John and Patsy Ramsey were indicted by prosecutors but never officially prosecuted by the district attorney, new reports state.
A grand jury voted to indict the Ramseys on charges of child abuse, but the district attorney did not believe he could win the case, and they were never tried, the Boulder Daily Camera reported over the weekend.
"I and my prosecution task force believe we do not have sufficient evidence to warrant a filing of charges against anyone who has been investigated at this time," Boulder District Attorney Alex Hunter said in a 1999 press conference.
JonBenet Ramsey was six-years-old when she was murdered on Christmas night, 1996, in the family's Boulder, Colo., home. The case has never been solved.
Prosecutors exonerated JonBenet Ramsey's parents and brother of her slaying in 2008 after DNA tests pointed to a stranger being responsible for her death.
In an interview with ABC News' Barbara Walters after her death, both of the girl's parents denied that they had killed her. They were eventually cleared by prosecutors.
