Tim Burton's 'Beetlejuice 2' Closer To Reality After Winona Ryder Confirms Sequel With Michael Keaton

| By

While fans are growing impatient with how Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice 2" movie progress is taking too long, original cast Winona Ryder confirmed in a recent interview that it is indeed happening.

In her latest appearance in NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers," the 43-year-old actress revealed the details.

"I think I can confirm it because Tim Burton did this interview," Ryder told Meyers when asked about the sequel. "It was very hush-hush, top secret, 'I don't know what may happen, I don't know,' and then he was doing some press for 'Big Eyes' and he did an on-camera interview and he said, 'Oh yeah, we're doing it and Winona's gonna be in it.' So can I say...? I mean if he said it. But I really don't know much more than anybody else."

Tim Burton previously revealed "Beetlejuice 2" development when he was promoting his movie "Big Eyes."

"It's a character that I love and I miss and I miss actually working with Michael," said Burton in December. "There's only one Betelgeuse. We're working on a script and I think it's probably closer than ever and I'd love to work with him again."

While in a separate interview with Yahoo! Movies, the highly acclaimed director further reveal details about the planned sequel, saying that there's already a script and he is excited about it.

"There's a script now, that I think is closer to what it could be and I'm excited about it," Burton revealed through Yahoo! Movies. "I wouldn't call it so much a sequel, but it'll have some characters [from the original 'Beetlejuice']. It's a bit too early to say but it's definitely something that's on my radar and something I'd love to do."

Seth Grahame-Smith on the other hand, has told Entertainment Weekly that "Beetlejuice 2" will most likely going to start filming this year.

"I know Tim is excited about the idea. Where it stands now is Tim's got to get ready to make ['Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children'], and then hopefully we are set, deals are done, and we're waiting in the wings ready to go right after 'Peregrine's' wraps up. The ideal timeline is we're really getting into it toward the end of this year."

Adding that original cast member Michale Keaton will be returning to reprise his role as Beetlejuice together with Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz.

"I've emailed with Michael Keaton. I know he's excited about the idea," Grahame-Smith said.

"[Burton] was doing press for 'Big Eyes' right before the holiday, and was getting the 'Beetlejuice' question, and sort of tipped people off that Winona [Ryder] would be back. Which yes, she will be back. I think we landed on the right idea, landed on the right approach. It's just now making sure that -- for me -- I don't want to shit my pants in front of the entire world making a sequel to one of my favorite movies."
