While fans are excitingly waiting for a new Deftones album, the alternative metal band's record is reportedly nearing completion.
However, something is keeping the group from finally announcing the release date to their new album.
Apparently, according to the band's DJ, Frank Delgado, Deftones has yet to think of a title to their record.
"That's our next thing to tackle," Delgado told Diffuser.fm of their album's title.
Furthermore, he revealed the band's album making process, explaining how their new strategy differs from their previous albums.
"This one was different," he said regarding the new Deftones album. "This one was a lot of starting and stopping which I think is something we would've been scared of before. For the last couple of records, we went in and we started writing and we didn't stop until we finished the record."
Adding, "This one we took our time and it was a good pace. Everyone needed that break to breathe, to go home to family. Now we're ready to be able to work like this. It allowed us to think about things longer as opposed to get something done by a deadline."
Deftones drummer, Abe Cunningham on the other hand, added that the band is almost done with the tracks' mixing.
"They're finishing the mixing right now," Cunningham said. "We're actually getting mixes sent to us while we're here."
While frontman, Chino Moreno, in a separate interview with Blabbermouth teased fans of their new album, revealing that Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell is actually involved in it.
"Jerry is on the new Deftones album," Moreno confirmed. "I didn't know if he wanted anybody to know or not. But I guess I've just spilled the beans. But he came in... There's this one track that... in the demo stages of it, I was, like, 'There's this hole in there...'"
And while Cantrell's skills are definitely admirable, Moreno explained that his involvement with the new album is more of an overall thing and not a solo.
"In Deftones songs, there's not really any guitar solos per se, but there was a section in there where [there was room for] not necessarily a typical solo, but it had an area where it could use something like what he does, especially... just his style and the way he plays guitar," he revealed.
Adding, "So I sent him the track, and then he sent me a demo of it back, like, two days later. So, yeah, when we recorded the song [properly for the album], he came in and laid it down. And it's awesome. It's like you're hearing a Deftones song, but all of a sudden, a little bit of Alice In Chains seeps its way in there, and it's kind of neat. I mean, me, as a fan, I was just sitting back and a little tear came out of my eye."
