Will "Hannibal" season 4 ever happen?
Fans are still hoping but in the last few weeks, news related to the show's stars and crew only lead to speculations that horror TV series based on Thomas Harris novel is officially gone.
First, there is the revelation that lead cast Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy have been released from their contracts. Then, series creator Bryan Fuller is now committed to new Starz TV show "American Gods." Last week, reports said Hugh Dancy nabbed a big role in another TV series from Starz.
Although recent events point to the idea that "Hannibal" season 4 is not happening. Fuller encourages fans to not give up. Although a renewal may not happen, with many big studios deciding to pass, he said other options are still open, specially for a feature film.
"We're canceled on NBC," Fuller confirmed during the Comic-Con International panel. Although that sounds sand for fans present at the event, Fuller insisted "we are still looking at some possibilities, including the possibility of a feature. Hopefully, we'll find a way to bring it back to you."
"Yeah, there's lots to think about," executive producer Martha De Laurentiis added.
Feature film instead of "Hannibal" season 4 was first discussed by Fuller in an interview with Deadline.
"Obviously there is something appealing about seeing a full circle back to the big screen with this cast," he said when asked what would be the silver lining of Hannibal getting canceled unexpectedly.
"So I can't deny that that would be the most awesome of results from this cancellation Hannibal - Season 3 - hugh dancyon NBC. At least for me, because it feels like a big-screen show in the way we produce it and the way it is formalistically designed. And having someone like David Slade direct a Hannibal film with Mads Mikkelson and Hugh Dancy is incredibly exciting."
"Hannibal" season 3 still has three episodes left before finale on Aug. 29.
