Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are going back to prison as Fox confirms the "Prison Break" revival for a limited-event series.
"Fox chairman and CEO Gary Newman announced the news at the TCAs in Pasadena, revealing original creator Paul Scheuring and [the actors] are involved in the reboot," The Guardian said.
After being acquired by online streaming giant Netflix, the website said the show's last four seasons "has found a new audience."
The revival will act as a sequel to the original series which will also see some of its most iconic characters make a comeback, according to Fox's Dana Walden.
"It picks up with the characters several years after we left them in the show. The brothers will be back. Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back," she said.
But as fans may recall, Miller's Michael Schofield died in the 2009 movie spin-off. Per Deadline, the "Prison Break" revival "will largely ignore the straight-to-video finale."
To solve the continuity issue, the website said the revival will offer "a logical and believable explanation to why the characters are alive and still moving around the world."
However, The Guardian reported that Walden did admit that the show's course has "some ambiguity."
"I don't think Paul knows exactly where it's going to over the 10-episode arc, but it will address some of the questions from the original show but also appeal to new audiences," the Fox exec said.
Creator and executive producer Paul Scheuring is reportedly already working on the first episode and a bible. When that's done, Newman "fully expects the project to get straight-to-series order," according to Deadline.
While waiting for more details on the "Prison Break" revival, fans can see stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell in action on "The Flash" and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" on The CW.
