$270K Corvette Sold to Help Habitat for Humanity [VIDEO]

A 1958 Chevrolet Corvette owned by General Motors CEO Dan Akerson sold for $270, 000 at auction late on Friday and the money will be given to the charity, Habitat for Humanity.

The $270k corvette was purchase by Richard Hendrick, a corvette collector and owner of Hendrick Motorsports, according to the Washington Post.

Akerson's version is in Regal Turquoise, a hardtop convertible and is considered scarce among remaining 1958 model

"We're going to auction it off for the benefit of the Habitat for Humanity. I believe everyone, individually and collectively and every company should do their part to help rebuild Detroit. It's commitment to Detroit, and specifically the Morning Side neighborhood, which we're trying to raise money and help for," Akerson said according to the Detroit News.

There were only 510 1958 Chevrolet Corvette in the blue color that was auctioned off. In total, only 9,168 were made in 1958. According to Motor Authority, the car is powered by a V-8 engine rated at 245 horsepower.
