"Outlander" seaon 2 casting news hint of bigger role of politics in the story. Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) are off to France and there, they will meet powerful people.
It is not just new cast members that should excite fans. The beautiful and gritty couple is also set for a big mission that will take them out of their comfort zones.
This mission was first shared by Sam Heughan during an interview with Blastr. However, he did not share to which "Outlander" season 2 cast this mission is connected to.
Caitriona Balfe was more generous than Sam though. Talking to TV Goodness, Balfe said the mission is something Claire wanted to use to take Jamie's mind off the ordeal he experienced in the hands of Jack Randall who is played by Tobias Menzies.
Tobias Menzies is no longer part of "Outlander" season 2 cast as his character died in the first season.
"I think this season Claire kind of sees that he needs something else to take his mind off what had happened and to give him some sort of other reason for getting up in the morning and going to do stuff," Balfe said.
"She uses the politics and gives him this mission, in a way, to sort of help him get passed what happened."
Balfe first talked about this mission on Blastr.
"Claire is dealing with her pregnancy and [wondering], how do you support someone going through a trauma like [Jamie's]? How do you help him get over it, or get past it?" the Irish actress said.
"The idea they have of changing the future, she uses it like a mission and something for Jamie to put his focus and energy into so he's not dwelling on what's happened. In a way she sacrificed herself a little bit because she's dealing with her pregnancy on her own in a way. They are going through a very complicated time in their relationship. It's not an easy time for them, but it's beautiful to watch how they figure out a way to support each other."
Aside from Balfe and Heughan, other parts of "Outlander" season 2 cast are Andrew Gower as Prince Charles Edward Stuart, Stanley Weber as Le Comte St. Germain, a member of the French Court while Cavanagh, Robert Cavanagh as Jamie's cousin and a strong Jacobite, Rosie Day as Mary Hawkins, the daughter of a minor baronet and the niece of Silas Hawkins, Romann Berrux as Fergus.
