Dollywood’s Wooden Roller Coaster Ride To Be The Fastest In The World! To Spend $22 Million On ‘Lightning Rod’

Here's a one-of-a-kind Dollywood ride for thrill-seekers, a roller coaster made from wood!

It sounds scary but it's true - Dollywood's newest ride will be open to the public on March 2016, as announced by Dolly Parton herself.

The Dollywood wooden ride will be called "The Lightning Rod" and is dubbed to be the fastest wooden roller coaster in the world.

At 73 miles per hour, "The Lightning Rod" will be located in Dollywood's Jukebox Junction area.

"Lightning Rod reminds me so much of those colorful cars cruisin' up and down Main Street in downtown Sevierville back when I was in high school," Dolly Parton said. "I remember all those souped up cars; but what I remember most were those good lookin' boys behind the wheel with those flat top and ducktail haircuts."

The new $22 million Dollywood coaster ride will comprise of 12 cars, allowing two passengers each, for a total of 24 passengers per train.

"I'm not going to ride that thing!" Dolly said of Dollywood's thrill rides. "I've got too much to lose - like my hair!"

"I don't like to ride the rides but I like to create them for people to enjoy," she added.

"Themed after a tricked out 1950s-era hot rod, Lightning Rod launches riders from zero to 45 mph more than 20 stories up its lift hill to one of the ride's first airtime moments," Dollywood's website read.

According to website description, the "Lightning Rod" will have passengers facing "twin summit airtime hills" before reaching the thrilling first drop.

"Lightning Rod races down the 165-foot drop and propels guests along its 3,800-ft. track to a top speed of 73 mph, the fastest speed for a wood coaster in the world," the website described.

Dolly Parton may be famous for her marks on the music industry but she is also known to be very entrepreneurial. Last May, the park opened its gates to 22 million thrill seekers, adding up to Parton's already ginormous net reported net worth of $450 million.

"Sometimes I look back on it and think, 'How did I manage to do all that? How did I get all that done?' the singer previously said of her business empire during an interview. "But you don't really know how people are going to see you. You hope to be respected and leave something good behind, but it's really gone well."
