While fans are anxiously waiting for George R.R. Martin to finally announce the "Winds of Winter" release date, reports suggest that the acclaimed author has something great to offer to avid fans to compensate for the delay.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, R.R. Martin has promised "great twists" in the book.
"This is going to drive your readers crazy but I love it. I'm still weighing whether to go that direction or not. It's a great twist."
The author continued saying, "It's easy to do things that are shocking or unexpected, but they have to grow out of characters. They have to grow out of situations."
"Otherwise, it's just being shocking for being shocking. But this is something that seems very organic and natural, and I could see how it would happen. And with the various three, four characters involved... it all makes sense."
And while things seemed to be all laid out for "Winds of Winter" release date, new reports suggest that the book's delay is causing some troubles to the upcoming "Game of Thrones" seasons.
HBO programming head Michael Lombardo has hinted that after season 6 of "Game of Thrones" there will still be additional two seasons left for the popular TV series, during the Television Critics Association's summer press tour.
"The question is how much beyond seven are we going to do," he said, adding that David Benioff and Dan Weiss felt "like there's two more years after six. I would always love for them to change their minds. That's what we're looking at right now."
Apparently fans have lost hope that George R.R. Martin would get to finish his novels before "Game of Thrones" finally gets off the air.
"Which brings us to Martin's 'The Winds of Winter' and 'A Dream of Spring,' Many 'ASOIAF' fans have abandoned hope about the author finishing the beloved series by the time the HBO show ends," according to IB Times.
"If that happened, the fate of Westeros would be revealed before Martin had a chance to finish the tale he started."
Adding, "It was pretty much guaranteed Martin would not be able to finish the last two novels before 'Game of Thrones' went off the air. If there's another season, we could see 'A Dream of Spring' along with 'Game of Thrones' Season 8," the article said.
It's expected that George R.R. Martin will announce the book's release date prior to "Game of Thrones" season 6 premiere, which is happening on April 2016.
