After suffering from a setback due to some casts' exit, it seems like Legendary's "Kong: Skull Island" movie is once again right on track.

Variety has exclusively reported that the movie has casted "Walking Dead" new actor Corey Hawkins in the movie.

Following his impressive portrayal of Dr. Dre in "Straight Outta Compton," Legendary has reportedly had its eyes on the actor for "Kong: Skull Island" movie.

While it's not yet clear as to what role Hawkins will be playing, there's an ongoing speculation that it could be the role that Michael Keaton was supposed to play prior to his exit.

Hawkins will be joining Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson in the movie to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and produced by Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni together with Mary Parent while, Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod to executive produce. Max Borenstein, John Gatins and Dan Gilroy penned the script.

While not much has been revealed about the movie's plot, it is reportedly set in the mysterious island where the king of the apes lives.

In his previous interview with Red Carpet News TV, Tom Hiddleston has already expressed his excitement in "Kong: Skull Island" movie.

"Well really it was [director] Jordan Vogt-Roberts has such an extraordinary vision," he said when asked what made him decide to accept the project in an interview with Red Carpet News TV.

He continued, "His story which I know he hasn't revealed to anyone yet is 'King Kong' you've never seen before, and it's very ambitious and epic and fresh and new in his vision and design and the characters are amazing. The chance to work with legendary again, who made 'Crimson Peak,' and I love what they did with 'Godzilla,' there are number of things, but it's more of working with Jordan particularly, his idea is amazing and the story and the script and the studio so yeah, it's a very easy yes."

Below is the official synopsis to "Kong: Skull Island" movie:

"In the spirit of its worldwide blockbuster Godzilla, Legendary Pictures presents a bold new take on the mythos of another iconic beast with Kong: Skull Island, which stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers and Thor series).

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and written by John Gatins (Flight) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla), "Kong: Skull Island" will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary's story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline.

Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures."
