Just last week, new Motorola smartphones were unveiled to the public but not a new smartwatch. This led many to believe that Berlin's IFA 2015 in September could play host to the Moto 360 2 release date.
"The no-show points towards a September launch for the Moto 360 2, with an IFA expo unveiling looking the most likely scenario now," a Forbes report said.
Back in May, Lenovo boss Yang Yuanqing hinted a summer launch for new Motorola phones and watches, as Franchise Herald reported in mid-July. Lenovo is Motorola's parent company.
The phone part of the hint has already been fulfilled. At its July 28 event, Motorola unveiled its Moto X Play, Moto X Style and the Moto G handsets.
Tech website iDigitalTimes thinks the company could have deferred launching its Android Wear device for the time being to compete with other upcoming smartwatches.
"With other companies like Samsung making big announcements at the 'Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin,' Motorola may opt to announce the Moto 360 2 release date then, to steal some of Sammie's thunder."
Samsung may also launch its round Tizen-powered Gear A smartwatch at the event although it could move up the device's debut to next week.
Last month, a massive leak revealed the spec sheet of Motorola's upcoming smartwatch. Allegedly, it will have a 1.56-inch LCD display with a 360 x 360p resolution, a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400-series SoC, 450MHz Adreno GPU and 512MB of RAM.
The Moto 360 2 is said to have 4GB of storage and a 400mAh battery. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi. A gyroscope, accelerometer, heart rate sensor and barometer make up the Android Wear-powered smartwatch's sensors.
But perhaps the biggest feature rumored so far is official compatibility with Apple's iOS-powered devices, according to iDigitalTimes.
