"Empire" season 2 is on the way and fans are being prepped for a bigger and bolder sophomore run.
The Fox musical drama has taken over the lives of many viewers, proof to that is its week-by-week ratings that broke records.
While the "Empire" season 2 cast is just getting bigger and bigger, one woman is claiming that one of the show's original characters is someone based on her. And so, she is resorting to lawsuit against the show's co-creator Lee Daniels.
"Detroit woman Sophia Eggleston claims she is the real-life version of "Empire" diva Cookie Lyon, and has filed a $300 million lawsuit against co-creator Lee Daniels and Fox, accusing them of stealing her life story for their hit show," the New York Post reported.
Eggleston said she is a real life drug kingpin and she got into jail for ordering a hit on a certain man. In "Empire" TV series, Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) went to jail for drugs but it was under her plan to save her husband Lucius (Terrence Howard) and let his music career soar. When Cookie got out of prison, he ordered a hit on a friend but realized she was wrong.
Eggleston said she wrote her story in a memoir titled "The Hidden." She claims this is where Strong got the idea for "Empire" TV series. She adds Cookie is similar to her when it comes to "behavior, style of dress, and background."
"Cookie was a drug kingpin that went to jail. So did plaintiff Eggleston. Cookie is released from jail confinement and immediately places a hit on a certain individual. Plaintiff . . . actually was jailed for doing the actual hit on a man.," the lawsuit says.
"There is no possibility the similarities are . . . mere coincidence. Defendants had access to and a copy of" her book."
Is it a legit claim?
"Empire" season 2 release date is September 23. Among the new additions in "Empire" season 2 cast are Adam Rodriguez, Lenny Kravitz, Tyrese Gibson, Alicia Keys, Chris Rock, Ludacris, and more.
