| By

"America's Next Top Model" Cycle 22, one of the longest-running reality competitions today, is beginning this August 5. With many surprises and twists along the way such as deaf male contestant Nyle DiMarco and Miss USA runner-up Mame Adjei, its ratings in the past seasons are reportedly slumping down.

Will you devotedly watch the show to save it from going down?

In a recent report by The Washington Post, "America's Next Top Model" seasons, including Cycle 22, are staggering in ratings and viewership.

The report featured a study conducted about the show which analysed some reasons why "nobody cares" about "America's Next Top Model" anymore, especially now that Cycle 22 is about to begin.

Titled "Things Fall Apart: The Dynamics of Brand Audience Dissipation," the study said among the reasons why it does not flourish as the show progresses through the years are "inferior judges" and "baloney" gimmicks as described by fans.

The study said the show's ratings began to drop in 2010, reportedly coinciding with "changes in 'America's Next Top Model's pillar of success.'" Now that Cycle 22 is about to begin, the show is facing challenges on how the regain viewership.

New gimmicks were brought in the show such as models walking on a runway with giant swinging pendulums distracting them, on a vertical runway down a high-rise building and modelling swimsuits along the aisles of a bus.

The proponents of the study looked at online conversations of the fans of "America's Next Top Model." For Cycle 22, the show said it will provide more twists to engage the viewers.

"America's Next Top Model" Cycle 22 is beginning this August 5 with 14 contestants competing to become this season's winner. He or she will receive $100,000 from Zappos Couture and become the face of the brand. The winner also gets a fashion spread in NYLON magazine and a modelling contract.
