Turn 10 Studio's presence at Gamescom 2015 saw a trailer launched showing off "Forza Motorsport 6" rain effects. Check it out below:
From the looks of it, the team behind "Forza 6" really did their homework and "gave a great attention to detail while putting rain into the game," Game Informer said.
Creative director Dan Greenawalt spoke to IGN about the Xbox One racing game's new feature and how it affects gameplay.
In adding wet weather and night racing, Greenawalt said they" wanted to deliver rain the way that drivers experience it" and "the way that drivers think about it."
With that vision in mind, the developer was not content on merely reducing traction over wet surfaces and adding splash effects.
"We've got standing water that's fully simulated on the track and, depending on the size of your tyres and how fast your angle of attack is, those tyres will aquaplane and you'll be along for the ride."
Additionally, Greenawalt told IGN that they had to consider the porosity of a given surface and see how it affects traction to accurately replicate "Forza Motorsport 6" rain effects.
Puddles won't just develop anywhere on the track though. TechnoBuffalo said Turn 10 used laser scanners to accurately render 3D puddles which will dictate how tires behave. The team also sifted through historical footage and talked to drivers to know the exact location of each puddle.
"Essentially, [the game] is simulating [aquaplaning], meaning that players will have to treat tracks with a totally new attention to detail once the water starts coming down," the website said.
The game's Drivatar AI profiles were said to be "nuanced enough to reflect different behaviour in wet conditions."
Allegedly, they'll even avoid some puddles and drive through ones that won't slow them down or send them skidding off track. They'll also follow different racing lines depending on wet or dry surfaces.
Apart from "Forza Motorsport 6" rain effects and night driving, gamers can look forward to 450 cars, 26 tracks from various locations around the world and more when it launches for the Xbox One on September 15.
