Whovians will have to come up with new theories on Maisie William's role on "Doctor Who" season 9 as showrunner Steven Moffat went on record to debunk existing ones.
"She is not playing a returning character," Moffat revealed at the Television Critics Association press tour as reported by TVLine.
"She's a brand new character, she's not someone from the Doctor's past."
The "Doctor Who" boss did reassure fans that Williams' "star value" won't go to waste saying she's in "a significant role" and that "she's terrific in it."
"Once you see what she's up to on the show, you'll appreciate what a clever idea it was," he said.
Williams, who plays Arya Stark on HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones," is one of the next season's biggest guest stars.
As Cinema Blend noted, many thought Williams was supposed to be "a regenerated/disguised version of someone from his past, like his granddaughter Susan or his daughter Jenny from the 10th Doctor episode 'The Doctor's Daughter.'"
The trailer for "Doctor Who" season 9 fuelled Maisie Wiliams role theories when Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor recognized her character when she unmasked.
"What took you so long, old man?" she said in the trailer "implying that [they] have familiarity with each other," Cinema Blend said.
Per Entertainment Weekly, Capaldi was also present at the panel and addressed how long he will stay as the Doctor.
"Certainly until the end of September," the Scot actor said.
Moffat joked how being the Time Lord "is the only job in television where everybody asks when you're leaving."
As for a movie adaptation of the BBC sci-fi series, Moffat implied that they can't shoot a movie and the show at the same time.
"What are we going to do, shut down for a year and make a movie? Does everybody want that? You'd rather [have] a movie than a whole series?" he said.
At least Whovians can still watch the season 8 finale and a season 9 prequel scene on the big screen before the next season premieres on September 19.
And fans can look forward to Maisie Williams' role in "Doctor Who" season 9's episode 5 and 6, titled "The Girl Who Died" and "The Woman Who Lived," respectively.
