The body of a woman was found in the trunk of her car, four days after her 3-month-old son was found abandoned in a Missouri apartment complex, police said.
The mom had been missing since last Thursday, and her baby had been found safe in an apartment Friday morning, according to a report by KPLR.
Authorities found the puncture wound behind Ebony Jackson's ear and believe it to be a gunshot wound, according to the sources. Police are awaiting a full autopsy to determine what caused the woman's death.
At a press conference this afternoon, St. Louis Police Capt. Michael Sack said there were signs of trauma to the body but declined to elaborate. He said the autopsy should be done today or Thursday.
Jackson left the home she shared with the baby's father last Wednesday, leaving a note saying she needed space, her cousin, Tondra Mosley of Los Angeles, said.
After traveling to the St. Louis area to visit relatives, "she told my mother she was staying with a friend," Mosley said.
"Someone out there knows what soulless people did this. Please come forward to let us know," family spokeswoman Linda Lawson said Tuesday outside the Breckenridge Hills Police Department.
Stella Jackson is a retired Army veteran whose military job led her to different states during Ebony Jackson's childhood. When she wasn't traveling with her mother, Ebony Jackson lived with Mosley's mother in East St. Louis. She attended the John F. Kennedy elementary school there before it was demolished, Mosley recalled.
