The News That Killed All Hopes For 'Hannibal' Season 4 Renewal; Amazon Also Explains Why They Passed

| By

Should fans continue hoping for "Hannibal" season 4 renewal?

The show is now in its third run but then series creator Bryan Fuller confirmed just a couple of episodes into the season that it has been cancelled.

This did not sit well with Fannibals of course. Fuller insisted though there is hope as he is looking for a new home/network for the show.

However, as "Hannibal" season 3's end approaches, a network is yet to adopt the show. In fact, recent news relating to the show are indicating that there will be no "Hannibal" season 4 renewal.

Last month, "Hannibal" announced that it has released its stars from their contracts. Now, a heavier blow to fans' hopes took place.

Hugh Dancy, who plays Will Graham opposite Mads Mikkelsen's Dr. Hannibal Lecter, has nabbed a new gig in Hulu for TV series "The Way" that also stars other actors from successful TV shows.

This news automatically made fans assume that maybe, "Hannibal" season 4 is not really happening.

"The cast of Hulu's upcoming drama series The Way keeps getting better: EW has learned that Hannibal star Hugh Dancy has been signed to a starring role in the project, joining previously announced actors Aaron Paul and Michelle Monaghan," EW reported.

Working for two shows can be daunting and this is what worries fans regarding Dancy's casting in Hulu show.

Now, Amazon reportedly passes on "Hannibal" season 4 renewal.

A few weeks after "Hannibal" cancellation, Fuller revealed that streaming services Amazon and Netflix passed on his show.

This weekend, Amazon Studio official Roy Price revealed they did not give a go for "Hannibal" season 4 because they would rather prefer a "fantastic new signature show."

"The thing about extending a show is that you would always be doing -- this is not a reflection on Hannibal in particular -- but you would always be doing that or you would usually be doing that, let's say, instead of doing the first season of a new show," he explained.

Adding, "And the first season of a new show could become the fantastic new signature show for the network, whereas a show that you could pick up that is coming out from a network or something, usually, if you have the opportunity to pick it up, it's kind of a marginally solid show. Almost never, truly is it a signature... a fantastic show that is going to be a signature show. And so it's often hard to decide, 'Yeah, let's not try a new show. Let's bet on getting a solid outcome.' We are not really in the solid outcome business, you know. We are not really in the programming business, you know. There used to be a market and there isn't in On Demand for that show."

"Hannibal" season 3 still has four episodes left.
