Xiaomi teases its scheduled launch of its new MIUI 7 on Aug. 13.
Could the Mi5 debut at the event too?
The Chinese tech giant, which recently regained the top spot for phone manufacturer on its homeland, is all set to take another leap on the smartphone industry.
Xiaomi is yet to unveil its new OS after its iteration of the Android 5.0 Lollipop on its MIUI 6, GSM Arena reported.
The announcement of the event on Weibo does not reveal anything about the upcoming OS, but it was confirmed few months ago that Xiaomi has partnered with Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) team for the MIUI 7 custom user interface, according to NDTV .
"With all the pieces of the deal in place, I wish to announce that all Team Kang members are working with Xiaomi on a new and refreshed MIUI 7, which will be finally based on Android 5.1, and be coming on the Mi 5,'' AOKP said on its blog post.
"MIUI 7, (which the team internally calls codename MiKangy, not to be confused with MiKandi), is a whole new take on the Android UX. The idea behind it is to kang all important features from the top ROMs like CM, PA, Omni and AOKP and create an experience which completely submerges the user in his own world. The UI will evolve with the user, and thus a few months after usage, the UI of each Mi 5 phone will be different - personalised to the traits of it's individual user."
Meanwhile, the partnership also confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi5 will be the first device to run on the MIUI 7.
There are no words of its release date yet, but it could possibly appear at the event as the upcoming flagship has already been spotted on live photos.
