[Warning: Spoilers ahead] "The Big Bang Theory's" final season 8 episode dropped some major relationship bombs! Would the couples find a resolution next season?
The season 8 finale left us all hanging with so many twists in the relationships statuses of the show's main characters. The changes were sudden and gut wrenching.
The episode follows Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) inadvertently forced to reflect on their relationship after Sheldon comments on the couple's passive attitude about their supposed wedding, to which Leonard answers,
"It doesn't matter if we get married tomorrow or a year from now or 50 years from now."
However, it did seem to matter because both decided to hop on a car and drive to Vegas to elope.
During the trip, Leonard confesses that he kissed another woman years ago after getting drunk, which makes Penny think that her beaux is having second thoughts.
Meanwhile, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and his girlfriend of two years, Amy (Mayim Bialik) are clashing over their different ideas about commitment.
Amy has been unhappy about how slow their relationship is going (they haven't been intimate) while Sheldon, who doesn't often pick up human emotion, has no idea.
When Sheldon and Amy started kissing, Sheldon breaks the momentum to ask Amy whether or not he should start watching CW's new series, "The Flash." Amy gets angry.
"Being your girlfriend is so challenging, emotionally, physically," Amy tells Sheldon later on, while video chatting. "This isn't easy to say because I love you, but I need some time to take a step back and reevaluate our situation. I hope you understand."
And as if that wasn't gut-and-heart-wrenching enough for Sheldon (and for fans), after the video call, he turns to a figurine of Gollum in 'The Lord of the Rings' and says: "Well Gollum, you're an expert on rings, what do I do with this one?" - and pulls out a beautiful engagement ring.
"The Big Bang Theory's" final season 8 episode also displayed relationship turmoil in the show's other couples like Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Emily (Laura Spencer), Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and their unlikable housemate Stuart (Kevin Sussman).
