Starz shared a number of "Outlander" season 2 casting news over the past months as part of the show's expanding story.
Lead characters Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) will see themselves in France after leaving Scotland in last season's finale.
There they will meet several royal individuals and some of Jamie's old acquaintances. The show enlisted veteran characters for this role and that alone already excites Balfe.
"Very much so. I liken it to when she first met Geillis," Balfe told TIFB's Erin Conrad when asked about how excited she is on "Outlander" season 2 casting, particularly Dominique Pinon who will play Master Raymond.
"It's again this person that she has a like-minded interest in herbs and healing. It's the first friend she makes in Paris. He is an absolute joy. I am a big fan of his work anyway from before and when I heard they cast him, I was kind of excited. I was like, 'we got Dominique Pinon!' He's just a joy to work with, he's bigger than life, he's a real unique, fantastic character, and he plays him so brilliantly."
Aside from "Outlander" season 2 casting news, Balfe was also asked to tease what to expect from her and Sam Heughan's character when the show returns.
She said Jamie hasn't fully recovered from the ordeal he went through in the first season and Claire will do everything to help him move on.
"Well, when we meet them at the top of the season, he's still struggling with what happened at the end of last season, we really wanted this to be a continuation - it's not a reset," she said.
"You see two people who are still very much affected by everything that's happened, and I think Claire really has to put aside some of her own issues at the moment to help him get past what's happened and heal. And part of that is giving him a mission, and giving him something to focus on that's not looking back on what had happened. They're going through a very uncertain time. They're struggling with their own issues and maybe privately there's a bit of a gulf between them. But ultimately they're there for each other and they're working to try and help each other. You see continuously, as with anything in life, adversity, and getting past adversity, will make you stronger and I think that's the beautiful thing about this."
Among those confirmed in "Outlander" season 2 casting news are Rosie Day, Stanley Weber, Robert Cavanagh, and Margaux Chatelier.
