F1 champ Jenson Button has supposedly claimed a pole position but this time, it's for a place in the new "Top Gear" lineup. New host Chris Evans is reportedly keen on signing his friend and McLaren-Honda driver.
"I hear the 35-year-old driver is in talks with the BBC about co-presenting 'Top Gear' with Chris Evans, who's also known for a hard-partying past," The Daily Mail's Sebastian Shakespeare said.
A source is said to have claimed that "an announcement is imminent."
"Neither Button's spokesman nor the BBC deny that talks are taking place but both refuse to comment on 'speculation.'"
Being a close friend of new host Chris Evans, having Jenson Button in the "Top Gear" lineup "makes sense," according to The Daily Express. Button appeared in Evans' Radio 2 show in January 2013 "where their chemistry was undeniable."
As fans may recall, Button has already appeared as a guest in the BBC motoring show in 2006 and 2010 during Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond's stint as hosts. Should he land the gig, what would the 2009 F1 champ do in "Top Gear?"
"He could really give the sports cars a proper test that not many other drivers could match," a show source told The Daily Mirror.
"Jenson is a popular driver and would be a real hit with car fans so [he] would be a great addition. Whether he can fit 'Top Gear' in full time around his other commitment remains to be seen, but Chris sees him as a great potential addition."
But Evans is so willing that he is reportedly willing to "work around the driver's F1 commitments," according to The Daily Mirror.
Chris Evans said earlier that the "Top Gear" lineup is "nearly in place." Jenson Button joins Suzi Perry, Jodie Kidd and Idris Elba, among others, as new hosts for the BBC motoring show.
