Brazil Burger Chain Rolls Out Edible Burger Wrappers [VIDEO]

| By

Burger lovers in Brazil don't need to waste time unwrapping their burgers before devouring them. A chain restaurant in South America's largest country has rolled out burgers which are wrapped in edible paper.

Customers at branches of chain restaurant 'Bob's' can now enjoy their burger and its paper wrapping together in a move which has already led to a fall in the amount of discarded packaging.

In its advert for the new product, the firm shows customers happily tucking in to the paper-wrapped treats - although many are believed to have been a little confused by the change at first.

Earlier this year, scientists at Harvard announced they had developed "novel edible forms" they called WikiCells to not only be safe to eat, but also take on the flavor of whatever they contained-or in the case, wrapped. It is unclear is this is the technology that "Bob's" burgers are using on their edible wrappers.

These edible wrappers are more than a novelty, however. WikiCells wrappers would help lower the amount of waste. It is estimated that in 2010 alone, U.S. consumers threw away more than 75 million tons of packaging waste.
