Shark Tank Burst in Shanghai Mall, Injures 15, Kills 3 Sharks [VIDEO]

| By

A shark tank burst in a Shanghai shopping complex earlier this month, injuring almost 15 people and killed three lemon sharks, some sea turtles and a variety of small fish.

According to reports, the incident happened at the Shanghai Orient Shopping Center, just off East Nanjing Road, on Dec. 19. The two-year old tank sent thousands of gallons of water, as well as sharks, turtles and other marine animals, gushing into an area crowded with shoppers and retail staff. Fifteen people were injured in the incident, and three sharks were killed.

In a recently released video (watch below), four people are standing immediately in front the gigantic 23 ft-by-10 ft shark aquarium at the Oriental Shopping Center moments before it shattered. Pedestrians could be seen passing by behind them.

The shark tank explosion left 15 bystanders injured and three sharks dead. There is still no official explanation as to why the shark tank exploded, but according to a WCPO report, it was because there was a crack in the 33-ton aquarium.

Local authorities are still investigating why the tank failed. "It just suddenly broke and fell off," an injured victim surnamed Li, who was hit by a metal frame, told the Shanghai Daily.

The tank housed three lemon sharks, various fish, and a number of turtles-all of which died following the water from the tank deluging the Shanghai, China mall's food court.

Mall representatives have stated that at present, they does not plan to rebuild the aquarium any time soon, One Minute News reports.
