Avril Lavigne returned to stage after diagnosis of Lyme disease last year.
The "Hello Kitty" singer performed her new single Fly for the opening ceremony of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, Daily Mail reported.
According to Business Standard, after her first major public appearance she posted on Instagram that she's honoured to perform at the event and "all proceeds will go to support Special Olympics."
"This was a very beautiful night for me. Congratulations to all the athletes. Thank you to everyone who supports the Avril Lavigne Foundation," Avril wrote.
"It has been a difficult year fighting through Lyme Disease for me and I am so happy to have made it on stage tonight for the first performance in a yeah. Thank you for having me and please enjoy my song Fly."
She concluded her post, that she wrote the song "to encourage people who are facing challenges, to encourage strength and to empower."
Last year, she revealed on Twitter that her song "Fly" is helping her get through her undisclosed health issues.
"Right now I'm using my own (new) song lyrics to help me get through this...... Just reach up, don't give up until you've touched the sky. Just reach up, don't give up until you've realized that we were all meant to fly," she posted on Twitter.
In an interview with People Magazine, the 30-year-old hitmaker revealed that she was diagnosed with Lyme disease - the same disease which "Real Housewives" star Yolanda Foster is battling.
She then recalled that she started feeling the symptoms in Las Vegas while she was celebrating her 30th birthday, and was confined to bed for five months.
"There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand," she added.
