In lieu of Disney's live-action remake projects, "Stone In The Sword" will be getting a reboot as well!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film studio is planning to recreate the 1963 cartoon featuring a young King Arthur being mentored by Merlin. It was the last cartoon to be released before Walt Disney's death.
The cartoon followed the life of a 12-year-old orphan Arthur. He later became king when he was able to remove a sword from an anvil in London.
Based loosely on T.H. White's novel, "The Once And Future King", Disney's live-action for "Stone In The Sword" tapped "Game Of Thrones" writer and producer Bryan Cogman to pen the screenplay for the upcoming feature film.
He confirmed this news with a photo of himself in Disneyland as he tried to take out the said sword from the anvil in Disneyland.
"Research," the screenwriter simply captioned the picture.
Known for its bloody and often hardcore fight scenes, will Cogman adapt a similar feel with the HBO epic fantasy series for the new Disney film? According to Variety, "Stone In The Sword" will be "on the lighter side."
Disney's live-action version of "Stone In The Sword" is just one of the film studio's list of cartoons to be rebooted in the coming years.
"Maleficent", which was a remake of "Sleeping Beauty", became a box-office hit. The Kenneth Brannagh-helmed "Cinderella" followed suit. "Alice Through The Looking Glass," the sequel to "Alice In Wonderland" will also be airing next year.
Meanwhile, other Disney cartoons have been slated for a remake as well.
Emma Watson will also be starring as Belle in "Beauty And The Beast," while Scarlett Johannsen, Bill Murray and Benedict Cumberbatch will be lending their voices for "The Jungle Book."
Tim Burton will be helming "Dumbo," while Reese Witherspoon will be joining the cast for "Tinker Bell." "Aladdin", "Mulan", "Fantasia" and "Winnie The Pooh" are also getting their own live-action films.
