A new version of ABC's "The Muppets" has been given a green light from the broadcast executives for a Fall airing later this year.
Mashable reported that the approval was made thanks to fans' "loud cries" after seeing the presentation at the San Diego Comic Con earlier in this month.
The mockumentary-style clip showed behind-the-scenes footage of the iconic character's lives, including Miss Piggy making out with Tophie Grace, Fozzie meeting his human girlfriend's disapproving parents, and Kermit getting stuck in the 405 traffic.
The site pointed out, however, that the pilot presentation won't be part of the actual series that will air later this year.
"It's meant to act as a tone-setter of sorts," the report said.
According to a previous report by Entertainment Weekly, the "more adult" pilot presentation of ABC's "The Muppets" had a "30 Rock" feel and filmed in the mock documentary-type style similar to "Arrested Development" and "The Office"
"'The Muppets' return to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show that-for the first time ever-will explore the Muppets' personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages," ABC's new logline reportedly read.
Producers are also planning "a series that will go deeper into the soap-territory that is the trademark of ABC's biggest hits like 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Scandal'."
On the other hand, Mashable further reported that the show will take place behind the scenes of Miss Piggy's talk show, "Up Late With Miss Piggy", with Kermit as her executive producer. The cast's personal lives will reportedly be explored in this new format.
Whether or not ABC's "The Muppets" will depict sex or violence is still unconfirmed.
