Brad Corbett Dies at 75, Former Texas Ranger Owner

| By

Brad Corbett, the Texas Rangers' principal owner from 1974 through 1980, has died at the age of 75.

The Major League Baseball team said Brad Corbett died on Dec. 24.

"The Texas Rangers are saddened to hear of the death of Brad Corbett," the team said in a statement. "His tenure as owner was marked by a passion and drive to bring a winning team to the fans of North Texas."

Corbett's daughter, Pamela Corbett Murrin, told The Associated Press that her father died peacefully in his sleep Monday. She said he had not been sick recently.

"The spirit in which Mr. Corbett served as owner of the Rangers will be remembered always," the team statement said.

The team won 94 games in 1977 and finishing above .500 four times. Ultimately, though, they were no match for the mid-to-late 70s Kansas City Royals and real success eluded the club. Corbett sold the team in 1980.

Corbett made his money in the plastics business, turning a $300,000 loan from the Small Business Administration into a multimillion-dollar company that sold plastic pipes for industrial use.
