While Square Enix hasn't officially confirmed a "Final Fantasy 7" HD remake release date, Amazon and EBGames have posted a Q4 2016 launch for the much-anticipated game in their respective sites. But is this all hype or a sign of things to come?
Not only is the "FF7" remake slated for a December 31, 2016 release date, both retailers are already accepting pre-orders, according to Game Revolution.
More than just hype, the website speculated that both listings are accurate and developer Square Enix may be behind it.
"The 2016 date is clearly a placeholder, but shows some significance. The year associated with placeholder dates has been accurate more often than not in situations similar to this, and when a game is posted across several sites around the same time, usually the publisher is responsible."
What's more is that EBGames also posted a "Final Fantasy 7" HD remake release date for the Xbox One along with the PS4. Fans may recall that the announcement trailer from E3 2015 said the remake will be available for the PS4 first.
"Anyway, Square Enix hasn't said a word as to how long PlayStation 4 will enjoy its timed exclusivity of the 'Final Fantasy VII' remake, but odds are good that it'll be a while," iDigitalTimes said.
As Franchise Herald previously reported, director Tetsuya Nomura did say that one of the key factors that made Square Enix push through with the remake is to boost PS4 sales.
Nomura also said that the remake won't simply be "FF7" with better graphics and instead make it "relevant to the modern era." The 44-year-old game director also said that the remake's game system will have "a sense of reality."
Fans can expect the same cast of characters from the original game.
Save for what Nomura has revealed so far, Square Enix has kept "Final Fantasy 7" HD remake release date, pricing and other details under wraps. For those who can't wait, a PS4 port of the original game will be released on October 16 while an iOS port is slated for a summer launch.
