ZTE Axon phones: "Samsung? Challenge accepted!"
At least, that's what the China-based tech company implies as it launches brand new phones, casting a wider net in a new market, the U.S.A.
Despite the fact that ZTE is barely known in the U.S., the tech company announced their new flagship smartphone -- the Axon.
At first, however, there was no mention that the device was made by ZTE, Mashable reports.
"We wanted to focus on the phone, not the brand," ZTE vice president of technology and partnerships at ZTE USA, Jeff Yee, announced at the Axon's launch event on Monday in New York City.
The Chinese company hopes to change their image through the new Axon phone -- from cheap-priced, cheap-featured phone to a phone that spells "affordable luxury."
The company meant to distance itself from the Axon phone's branding, to get American consumers to gain interest towards the phone without any pre-existing biases.
Axon was designed in the U.S., made specifically for the U.S. market. It is the first time the tech company had done so, since every previously released devices by ZTE were made and designed in China.
The flagship phone boasts of four selling points: camera, audio, design and performance -- four things that many affordable smartphones lack, Yee said.
The phone will include a 4GB RAM, 5.5 inch display with 2560 x 1440 QuadHD resolution and runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor.
It also has a 32GB internal memory, 4G LTE enabled and 3,000 mAh quick charge 2.0 battery.
But perhaps the most attractive feature is its cameras -- it has a 13 megapixel rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a 2 megapixel camera on top of it. Meanwhile, the front camera allows you to take selfies simply by smiling. Both cameras can shoot 4K HD videos.
With these specs, it seems somehow ZTE Axon's bet against Samsung is a serious challenge on the Korean company's current dominance in the smartphone arena.
