It has been a while since Disney Channel had a promising teenager movie like "High School Musical" and this Friday, Disney is showing the "Descendants" movie featuring the offspring of their famous villains.
Disney's "Descendants" movie is also directed by Kenny Ortega as with the HSM movie series. It tells the teenage life of the children of villains Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, Jafar and the Evil Queen, Variety reports.
"'Descendants' takes [in a land] where Belle and Beast are king and queen, and where all the kingdoms in Disney fairy tales come together as one," director Kenny Ortega shares. "This is a story about after happily ever after."
Maleficent is played by Kristin Chenoweth and her daughter, Mal is played by "Liv and Maddie" star Dove Cameron. Also in the cast are Sofia Carson as the Evil Queen's daughter Evie, Cameron Boyce as Cruella De Vil's son Carlos, and Booboo Stewart as Jafar's son Jay.
Never had we thought that these villains - busy wreaking havoc upon Disney princesses and princes - would have time to bear offspring.
"It's a real modern fairy tale," Ortega adds. "A once upon a now fairy tale."
Zee News reports that Disney's "Descendants" movie is so far "the biggest and the most ambitious movie" the renowned company has made.
Disney's "Descendants" movie premiered last Friday at Walt Disney Studios and was reportedly attended by Disney Channel stars such as Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel.
"We have now made 100 Disney Channel original movies, and this is by far the biggest and most ambitious movie we've ever attempted," Disney Channel president Gary Marsh said in the report.
The first six minutes of Disney's "Descendants" movie has been unveiled.
The preview clip has a teenager voice-over who starts telling the story using the popular gadget of tomorrow, the tablet.
The first part features King Beast and Queen Belle's teenager son being fitted for a style, and cut to a part where Mal is finishing a wall graffiti that reads "Live Evil."
With her hair dyed, Mal starts singing the first song in the Disney "Descendants" movie calling her friends who are also sons and daughters of the classic villains. The first song has an upbeat tone with some techno rhythms added to it.
The setting features public markets and textile shops.
"The original concept didn't have music," says director Ortega in a report by the NY Daily News. "When we decided to add it, we just tweaked the story a little and it fit seamlessly. My rule with music is that it shouldn't just be there. It needs to move the story forward."
