Hayley Atwell and James D'Arcy will be back for a new adventure for "Agent Carter" season 2. And waiting for Peggy and Jarvis in LA will be the Secret Empire and a mysterious "something" called the Darkforce.
At SDCC 2015, showrunner Tara Butters gave SuperHeroHype a hint on the next season's villains.
"The antagonists... I will say... exist in Marvel comics. A version of it. There's a group... I can say this... called the Secret Empire."
In the comics, the Secret Empire is an evil organization that spun off from Hydra. Led by someone only known as "Number One," it aims to conquer the USA "surreptitious means" which include deeply-layered conspiracies and underground armies.
The subversive organization won't be the only baddie Hayley Atwell's Peggy and James D'Arcy's Jarvis will be facing in "Agent Carter" season 2.
Also at Comic-Con, Butters told a group of reporters, including Comic Book Resources, a new element from the comic books will be introduced in the show.
"There's a thing called Darkforce that - Blackout was shown on 'Agents of SHIELD.' He was sort of created by Darkforce. It's part of the 'Dr. Strange' universe. So that's going to pop up and cause problems."
According to The Outhousers, Darkforce was first seen in the "AoS" episode "The Only Light in the Darkness" from the first season.
"In the television show, the Darkforce is a negative energy and gives Blackout the ability to manipulate [it] and absorb kinetic energy, including human biochemistry."
In the comics however, Darkforce is another dimension from which some mutants derive their powers.
It wasn't explained how it will figure into "Agent Carter," the website speculated that the show might introduce Darkstar, a known Darkforce wielder from the comics "since the first season did have a Russian presence."
Tapping into the "Doctor Strange" universe "most likely underscores the importance of the upcoming Scott Derrickson-directed feature film," according to ComicsBeat.
"Agent Carter" season 2 starring Hayley Atwell and James D'Arcy is expected to premiere during the midseason break while "Doctor Strange" won't hit theaters until November 4, 2016.
