A 14-month old child fell from the Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas, that departed from Florida's Port Canaveral, on a cruise for the Bahamas, and turned back to seek help for the severely injured child.
According to Click Orlando, the child, from India, fell on Friday from the 11th floor balcony of the cruise to the 10th floor and suffered serious injuries.
Royal Caribbean released the following statement:
"On Friday, December 21, a 14 month old guest from India traveling on Monarch of the Seas was injured in a fall. The guest was initially treated in our medical facility, but required additional and urgent medical attention that could only be provided in a hospital. Therefore, the ship turned around and returned to Port Canaveral, Florida, where we could debark the guest and their family so that the guest could receive urgent medical care.
The name of the child has not been released, but the child did have to be airlifted to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children for treatment. The cruise was set to be a three-day trip to the Bahamas, but returned to port just a few hours after departure.
Details of information about the child's injuries and current medical condition have not been released. While few details have been made public, reports indicate that the emergency call was a trauma alert, meaning that the child was critically ill and needed medical attention immediately.
Click Orlando notes that the child apparently crawled away from his father, and the fall was from the 11th floor to the 10th floor. Royal Caribbean officials are providing assistance and support to the family, and they say they will continue to do their best to continue helping them.
