Lee Dorman Dies at 70, Band Member of Iron Butterfly

Lee Dorman dies at the age of 70 on Friday in Laguna Niguel, Calif. Dorman was the bass guitarist for the psychedelic rock band Iron Butterfly who are famous for their song.

Lee Dorman was discovered dead in his car outside his home about 10 a.m., according to Gail Krause, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department. A coroner's investigation is under way, but foul play is not suspected, according to the Associated Press.

Lee Dorman was born in September 1942 and had been living in Laguna Niguel, a coastal city in Southern California, when he died.

The band, Iron Butterfly recorded "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida" in 1968 which was a 17-minute heavy metal track that "was nothing short of a pop monument," The Times said. The track has been featured in a number of films and television shows, including an episode of "The Simpsons."

Dorman founded another band, Captain Beyond, in the 1970s. He continued touring with Iron Butterfly until recently. The band has replaced a number of musicians over the decades.
