An Aladdin Prequel is set to be Disney's next live action project, according to reports. Will fans be amazed by a whole new world of this iconic childhood fairytale?
The Aladdin prequel will reportedly be a Disney live action comedy adventure, currently being developed by the studio and written by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon. It will also be produced by Vinson Films, led by Tripp Vinson.
Vinson is the executive producer of the summer blockbuster movie, "San Andreas," and Disney's "Bob the Musical" as well as "Prince Charming."
Meanwhile, Shannon and Swift are the men behind the remake of "Friday the 13th" and "Freddy vs. Jason."
Aladdin, is a 1992 Disney classic based on a centuries-old Arabic folk tale. The 1992 animated version of the said tale featured the late Robin Williams, who lent his voice for the character, "Genie."
The story revolves around Aladdin, a street urchin who discovers a lamp, not knowing that it held a Genie inside. After Aladdin frees him, the blue-skinned Genie grants him three wishes.
In the Aladdin prequel, however, aside from Disney's live action treatment with the story, the audience will be brought to a time before what we had always known.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the story will focus on Genie's history. The live action movie will also uncover how Genie ended up trapped and enslaved in the lamp, eventually falling into Aladdin's hands to be freed.
Since becoming a Disney classic, Aladdin has found great success in theater re-makes on Broadway, where Tony and Academy Award winners collaborated, such as Alan Menken ("Newsies"), Howard Ashman ("Beauty and the Beast") and Tim Rice ("The Lion King," "Aida"). "Aladdin the Musical" had also found its way on international stages, like Japan and Germany.
Aside from that, its musical spectacular remains to be a favorite attraction in Disney's Adventure Park in Anaheim, California.
